Background
In accordance with the 1993 Biological Opinion for the Operations of the Federal Central Valley Project (CVP) and the California State Water Project (SWP) DWR is required to provide a summary of the incidental take (loss) of winter-run chinook salmon at the State and Federal Delta Fish Facilities. Loss is defined as the number of fish "lost to the Delta system" when they become entrained at the export facilities. The loss estimate includes parameters such as the number of individual chinook salvaged, mortality rate in the forebay, screen in-efficiency and handling mortalities. Preliminary versions of these data are disseminated on a weekly basis throughout the 2001/2002 incidental take season (October 2001-May 2002). The data were acquired from the source agencies, Department of Fish and Game (DFG), United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and Department of Water Resources (DWR). The race of chinook is determined by length using the "Delta Model" length criteria.

The Winter-run Loss graph is an illustration of the daily winter-run length loss, total daily loss of older juveniles, cumulative winter-run length loss, daily loss of older juveniles per thousand acre-feet, and exports (taf) at the Delta Fish Facilities. Older juveniles include all yearling Chinook plus all winter-run length chinook.

The Observed Chinook Salvage graph is an illustration of the daily observed Chinook salvage at the Delta Fish Facilities, exports at the Delta Fish Facilities, Delta Outflow, Sacramento and San Joaquin River flows.

The SWP Winter-run Weekly Report is a data report of the winter-run length chinook salvage and loss at the SWP Delta Export Facilities. This report includes exports at SWP, Sacramento and San Joaquin River flows, Delta Outflow, and the percentage of Delta inflow diverted (3-day average), and coded-wire tagged Chinook salvage.

The CVP Winter-run Weekly Report is a data report of the winter-run length chinook salvage and loss at the CVP Delta Export Facilities. This report includes exports at CVP, Sacramento and San Joaquin River flows, Delta Outflow, and the percentage of Delta inflow diverted (3-day average), and coded-wire tagged Chinook salvage.
